I have a Masters of Visual Communications from the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany. My main subject was corporate design and branding though I also enjoyed studying calligraphy, life drawing and photography. We studied without computers and had to improvise, make do and sketch as much as we could.
It fascinates me how much my industry has changed in the last 20 years. When I started to work in advertising we always met the client and later we went to see the printer to look at proofs. Today we have better tools and better ways to communicate with our clients and our suppliers though often we never meet them in person. One thing hasn't changed though: a great design still needs a great idea!
